Man jailed for not sending wife to wedding, locking her in basement

In the Yashnobod district of Tashkent city, a court verdict was issued against a 41-year-old former serviceman who locked his wife in a basement to prevent her from attending a wedding.

According to court documents, on the evening of July 26, 2025, he forcibly took his spouse G.S. to the basement because she intended to go to a relatives’ wedding in Samarkand and unlawfully deprived her of her liberty for one day without providing water or food.

In addition, on August 31, 2025, using the excuse that his bank card had been “blocked,” he beat his wife with his hands and a phone charger cable. An expert examination confirmed the presence of bruises on various parts of G.S.’s body.

At the court hearing held on December 19, 2025, the man fully admitted his guilt. The court found him guilty of unlawful deprivation of liberty and domestic violence and sentenced him to 3 years and 1 month of imprisonment. The sentence is to be served in a settlement colony.
