Has the Hantavirus threat reached Uzbekistan?

Recent reports of hantavirus infections in some countries have sparked discussions. However, no cases of this virus have been detected in Uzbekistan so far.
According to Nurmat Atabekov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health, the epidemiological situation in the country remains stable.
"There is currently no cause for concern regarding hantavirus in Uzbekistan. The situation is under full control," the expert emphasized.
According to the World Health Organization, this infection does not spread as rapidly as coronavirus and does not pose a global pandemic risk.
Briefly about the virus
There are over 20 types of hantavirus worldwide, but only some are dangerous to humans. The disease is more common in parts of Asia, Europe, and Latin America, with relatively higher rates in countries like Argentina, Chile, and Brazil.
The virus is primarily transmitted by rodents. It can spread to humans through contact with items, dust, or food contaminated by their urine, feces, or saliva. Prolonged exposure to contaminated environments also increases the risk.
Symptoms and risks
The disease typically manifests with fever, headache, weakness, nausea, vomiting, and muscle or abdominal pain. In severe cases, kidney failure and serious respiratory complications may occur.
Experts note that there is currently no specific vaccine for hantavirus. Treatment is primarily based on managing symptoms.
Situation in Uzbekistan
No cases of hantavirus infection have been recorded in the country to date. Sanitary services are conducting regular virological monitoring.
At the same time, a number of preventive recommendations have been issued for the public: maintaining personal hygiene, keeping homes and workplaces clean, storing food properly, washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly, and regularly cleaning areas where rodents might multiply.
Citizens returning from endemic regions are advised to inform their local family polyclinics about their health status.
Currently, sanitary-epidemiological safety is strictly monitored at 53 border control points across the republic.
