Latest developments and new offers in Eldor Shomurodov's transfer situation
Last season, Eldor Shomurodov played for Cagliari on loan before returning to Roma, but his future has been a subject of speculation during the last two transfer windows. Despite serious offers, Roma’s head coaches have twice decided to keep the Uzbek forward in the capital.

During the final days of the summer transfer window, several Italian clubs, as well as MLS side Atlanta United, showed interest in Shomurodov. The striker was reportedly open to a move to secure more playing time. However, then-Roma coach Daniele De Rossi decided to keep him, especially after Shomurodov scored Roma’s first goal of the season.

A similar situation unfolded in January. After scoring against Eintracht and helping Roma reach the Europa League playoffs, Shomurodov was once again prevented from leaving—this time by Claudio Ranieri, who blocked a move to Venezia.

Transfer Battle and New Offers

Venezia had agreed to all of Roma’s transfer conditions, surpassing competition from Cagliari and Empoli in the race for the Uzbek striker. However, they were ultimately unable to secure his services.

Currently, Shomurodov has one concrete offer from MLS club Toronto FC. With Lorenzo Insigne expected to leave, Toronto has entered negotiations to bring in the Uzbek forward as his replacement. The North American transfer window remains open until April 23, giving MLS clubs ample time to finalize deals.

Despite this, sources in Italy suggest that Claudio Ranieri is keen on keeping the 29-year-old striker at Roma and is not willing to let him leave for overseas opportunities.

Uncertain Future and Torino's Interest

Shomurodov’s future at Roma remains uncertain. However, Torino has reportedly expressed interest in signing him at the end of the current season. The forward’s contract with Roma runs until the summer of 2026, and the club is expected to set an asking price of around €4 million. This marks a significant reduction from their previous valuation, as Roma had already accepted Venezia’s €3.5 million offer for a permanent transfer after an initial loan deal.

Having played in Serie A since 2020, Shomurodov has gained considerable experience in Italian football. Across his stints with Genoa, Spezia, Cagliari, and Roma, he has made 115 Serie A appearances, recording 16 goals and 10 assists.

With the summer transfer window approaching, it remains to be seen whether he will stay at Roma, move within Italy, or make a switch to North America.
