In the 35th round of the Italian Serie A, Roma hosted Fiorentina and secured an important and hard-fought 1–0 victory. More than 60,000 spectators at the Stadio Olimpico witnessed this game, and the only goal of the match was made possible largely thanks to Eldor Shomurodov.
With this win, the Romans extended their unbeaten streak in Serie A to 19 matches, setting the best run of the season across Europe’s top 5 leagues.
Just before the end of the first half, Uzbekistan national team striker Eldor Shomurodov delivered a brilliant header into the box, which his Ukrainian teammate Artem Dovbyk converted with precision, leaving Fiorentina goalkeeper David de Gea helpless.
This single goal granted Roma two major records. First, it marked the club’s 9th 1–0 win of the season — the most among teams in Europe’s top five leagues. According to Opta, no other club in England, Spain, Germany, France, or Italy has achieved this many minimal wins this season. Eight of these wins came under Claudio Ranieri, while one occurred under previous coach Ivan Jurić.
Second, Roma's unbeaten streak since December 2024 now stands at 19 matches — 14 wins and 5 draws. That’s another top record this season across the top 5 leagues.
Shomurodov played a key role in many of these wins. In matchweek 33, he scored the winner against Verona. In the following two matches — against Inter and Fiorentina — his assists led to additional 1–0 victories, bringing the total to nine.
This equals Roma’s club record set nearly half a century ago. Historical data shows that in the 1965/66 season under Oronzo Pugliese and in 1974/75 under Nils Liedholm, Roma won nine matches 1–0.
Now, Ranieri’s team is one step away from an all-time club record. Winning just one more match 1–0 — against Atalanta, Milan, or Torino — would set a new historical milestone.
This season, Eldor Shomurodov has made 24 appearances, scoring against Empoli, Monza, Juventus, and Verona, and providing assists against Bologna, Monza, Inter, and Fiorentina. His contribution to Roma’s Champions League qualification campaign has been invaluable.
