For the talented young Uzbek footballer Abbosbek Fayzullayev, who is demonstrating his potential in Russian football, the 2024/25 season is unfolding in a special and memorable way. Our compatriot, who transferred from Pakhtakor to the Moscow-based CSKA club, is now on the verge of winning his first major trophy as a legionnaire.
In the first part of the new season, the "Army men" failed to achieve satisfactory results and, in December, appointed Serbian coach Marko Nikolić as head coach. During the winter break, Nikolić radically changed the team's style of play. In particular, the club switched to a tactically complex and demanding "diamond" formation requiring high activity.
In this tactical change, the main responsibility was placed precisely on Abbosbek Fayzullayev. The young Uzbek footballer, who previously appeared mostly as a winger, now performs multiple tasks simultaneously, such as organizing attacks and supporting defense from the center of the pitch. This role demands great physical endurance and a high work rate.
Marko Nikolić explained the reason for entrusting this important and challenging task to Abbosbek by stating that our compatriot achieved the highest scores in special tests. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the experienced Serbian coach's choice has fully justified itself.
Indeed, changes to the new formation have quickly yielded positive effects on the team's results. CSKA, which ended the first half of the championship in sixth place, has now demonstrated high efficiency in the subsequent stage, remaining undefeated for ten matches in a row. As a result of this successful run, the team secured a spot among the top three. Since March, the Muscovites have achieved seven victories and three draws.
Furthermore, CSKA is also achieving excellent results in the Russian Cup. In the competition for reaching the Superfinal, the Muscovites faced the reigning champion and cup holder Zenit. Despite losing the first match 0:2, the CSKA players showed high skill and determination in the return match, defeating their opponents by the same 2:0 scoreline. Fortune favored CSKA in the penalty shootout as well, allowing the team to advance to the Superfinal.
After the match, Abbosbek Fayzullayev shared his thoughts on the game with journalists:
“Many call today’s game the best performance of CSKA this season. Yes, I agree with this. But I believe we will show our very best game of the season in the Superfinal. Words cannot describe the atmosphere of matches like this,” said Abbosbek.
Additionally, Abbosbek expressed special gratitude to his fans, emphasizing that their support and trust give the team additional strength.
The young Uzbek legionnaire has participated in 36 matches this season in the Russian Premier League and the Russian Cup, scoring 3 goals and making 7 assists. Of course, after moving to a new position, his personal statistics slightly declined, but head coach Nikolić mentioned that this is temporary. According to him, once Abbosbek fully adapts to the new role, the number of goals and assists he provides will significantly increase.
The decisive Superfinal of the Russian Cup will take place on June 1 at the legendary Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. CSKA players will face the winner of the second semifinal between Rostov and Spartak.
The Zamin.uz editorial team wishes Abbosbek Fayzullayev and the CSKA club success in this historic match and believes that Uzbek football talents will continue to conquer new heights in the European arena! Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
