A new historic decision was made in Tashkent: a presidential decree was issued on the comprehensive preparation of Uzbekistan’s athletes for the XXXIV Summer Olympic and XVIII Paralympic Games to be held in Los Angeles in 2028, reports president.uz. This decision opened new opportunities for the nation’s athletes.
The document sets specific goals and tasks for the country’s athletes to participate worthily in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In particular, it aims to increase the number of medals in priority sports such as boxing, judo, taekwondo, freestyle wrestling, and weightlifting, obtain international licenses in 21 sports (including triathlon, volleyball, table tennis, basketball, modern pentathlon), and to develop cooperation with international sports organizations.
According to the decree, based on results achieved at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, sports will be categorized as priority, promising, and developing. This procedure will further increase competitiveness in the field and allow each athlete to clearly define their individual development path.
Importantly, the list of sports directions will be reviewed every four years and officially approved by the end of the year following the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This ensures that Uzbekistan’s athletes will continuously develop and achieve the highest results on the international stage.
