After the conclusion of the Uzbekistan - Iran match (1:0) in the final of the CAFA Nations Cup 2025, FIFA President Gianni Infantino entered the dressing room of the Iranian players and addressed them with sincere words.
"Today, the Iranian national team played at a very high level on the field. You have every right to be proud of this.
I can say with confidence right now - the Iranian national team will participate in the 2026 World Cup! So, welcome to the World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico!," the FIFA president said.
Addressing the players again, he said: "You made your country and your families proud by qualifying for the World Cup. You have made 80 million Iranians happy. One of the Iranian footballers gifted me his jersey at the 1998 World Cup, which I still have and is dear to me.
I remember the World Cup in Qatar, when Iran and Wales played, it was an incredible and amazing game. This was the feeling of football, and the whole stadium stood up and applauded. We must unite the world. You played very well, and you are a strong team. There are wins and losses in football, and you are truly strong and you should be proud of yourself."
Infantino's comments were met with applause by members of the Iranian national team.
As a reminder, there were previous reports that US President Donald Trump opposed the Persians' visit to America to participate in the World Cup due to political disputes between the US and Iran.
