Petition for Galenoi's resignation begins in Iran

Iranian national team coach Amir Galenoi could be dismissed from his position ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Recently, Iranian journalists have been demanding Galenoi's resignation at press conferences. This dissatisfaction has intensified after the 1-0 defeat to Uzbekistan in the CAFA 2025 final.

Petition and fan demand

On September 8, a petition demanding the dismissal of Galenoi from the position of head coach of the national team was published on the Karzar.net website. It criticized recent negative results, the lack of transparency in calling players from clubs, and the general style of play.

The petition was signed by more than 38,000 fans in two days. The authors demand that the federation and the ministry stop cooperating with Galenoi and appoint a coach with international experience.

Footballers' reactions

It is known that after the final, Iranian players had mixed reactions. Alireza Jahanbakhsh congratulated Uzbekistan on their victory, while defender Mohammad Hossein Qanooni sharply criticized the referees. Mehdi Toremiy found it necessary to apologize to the fans for the defeat.

Game analysis and historical place in the match

It should be recalled that in the final, Eldor Shomurodov failed to score from a penalty kick in the 105th + 4th minute. However, Hojiakbar Alijanov's accurate shot in the 119th minute brought the Uzbekistan national team its first victory over Iran after a 13-year break.
