Serbia national team head coach dismissed

The head coach of the Serbian national football team, Dragan Stojković, has been dismissed from his position. The Football Association of Serbia officially announced the decision.

According to reports, the termination came after Serbia’s defeat against Albania. In the crucial match held in Belgrade, the hosts lost 0–1, which finally exhausted the patience of the federation’s leadership.

Following the loss, Stojković was relieved of his duties. Serbia currently finds itself in a difficult position in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers — the team has collected 7 points from 5 matches, sitting in third place, four points behind second-placed Albania.

Stojković had been in charge of the national team since March 2021. Under his leadership, Serbia played 55 matches, achieving 26 wins, 14 draws, and 15 losses.

According to the federation, the position will temporarily be filled by U21 team coach Zoran Mirković, who will lead the squad in the upcoming matches until a permanent coach is appointed.

Earlier, Serbia also suffered a heavy 0–5 defeat to England. Local media described these results as evidence of a tactical crisis within the team.

Analysts believe that Serbia now stands on the threshold of a new era — it needs fresh energy, a new coach, and a clear long-term strategy. Mirković’s interim appointment could be the first step toward rebuilding the squad’s morale.
