Turkey’s Süper Lig club “Istanbul Başakşehir” has recently been in the global spotlight — not only for its performance on the pitch but also for its creative social media activity. Uzbek stars Eldor Shomurodov and Abbosbek Fayzullaev have played a major role in this attention.
Many Uzbek football fans have started supporting Başakşehir this season because both national team leaders are playing for the club simultaneously.
Recently, Başakşehir went viral online with a creative video featuring world football superstar Kylian Mbappe. Using artificial intelligence, the club created a montage that made it appear as if Mbappe was following their official page and saying, “I really like their content.”
Mbappe’s gesture brought massive global PR attention to Başakşehir, with Turkish and international media widely covering the story.
Meanwhile, Shomurodov has become one of the team’s key players. The Uzbek national team striker joined Başakşehir on loan from Roma for €3 million, with an option to buy for €2.7 million. He quickly became a leader and top scorer — netting 3 goals and providing one assist in 7 appearances.
The 30-year-old forward also shines internationally, scoring 43 goals in 86 appearances for Uzbekistan.
Additionally, Başakşehir signed Abbosbek Fayzullaev from Russia’s CSKA Moscow for €7.5 million, making him the most expensive player in the club’s history.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has played 5 matches so far and is still adapting to the Turkish league. Fayzullaev has also represented Uzbekistan 30 times, scoring 8 goals.
The presence of Shomurodov and Fayzullaev is bringing Başakşehir success both on and off the field. They are becoming new faces not only of Uzbek football but also of the Turkish Süper Lig.
