The Japan Football Association (JFA) is increasingly dissatisfied with the situation within the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). In particular, the growing influence of Arab countries and unfair decisions have prompted Tokyo’s leadership to consider decisive action.
According to Iraq’s UTV outlet, after the controversial decisions surrounding the Elite Asian Champions League tournament held in Saudi Arabia, Japan is considering establishing a new federation — the East Asian Football Association.
The idea was triggered by the incident involving “Vissel Kobe.” The club lost its position in the standings after “Shandong Taishan” withdrew from the tournament and was subsequently fined $10,000 by the AFC. In Japan, this decision was viewed as a clear example of double standards.
JFA representatives emphasize that Japanese clubs, as well as stars playing in Europe such as Takefusa Kubo, are suffering from inconvenient scheduling and structural management issues.
According to sources, if the East Asian Federation is officially formed, countries such as Korea, Australia, and Iraq may join Japan. This could significantly alter the current balance of power in Asian football.
Observers believe that Japan’s move could become a major political and sporting revolution in world football and may push the AFC toward internal reform.
