Barcelona head coach: "It's not about philosophy, it's about speed"

Barcelona head coach Hans-Dieter Flick openly commented on the team's performance after the Champions League match against Club Brugge in the fourth round. The match in Belgium was very dramatic - despite the Catalans taking the lead several times, the match ended in a 3-3 draw.

According to Flick, the game was very tough, and the team lost many battles:

"The meeting wasn't easy. We had enough chances to score, but the opponent defended very tightly, acted aggressively and disciplinedly. Especially in the center of the field, we lost. As a result, we couldn't fully execute the pressing, and the opponent put a good pressure on us," the coach said.

The experienced specialist also drew attention to the shortcomings of the defensive line:

"It's not easy to defend the goal in such games. Defense is not just the back line - midfielders should also help more in defense. We must work and analyze this. Some aspects definitely need to be changed, but we won't betray our main philosophy. After all, we are Barcelona."

Flick argues that there is no need to change the team's style, only a lack of intensity in its full implementation:

"The issue is not in philosophy, but in how we implement it. If there is no speed and discipline, there will be no opportunity. In the Champions League, opponents attack very quickly, and Club Brugge did it brilliantly. We left an extra gap in defense, but even in this situation, we managed to save the game."

The coach did not hide his dissatisfaction with the result, but acknowledged the team's morale:

"3:3 - this is not a good result, but we fought in the last minutes, recovered, and showed character. We need to work further on this path. We still have a lot of work to do to become a real Barcelona," concluded Hans-Dieter Flick.
