Jurgen Klopp, one of the coaches who left an indelible mark on English Premier League history, recently shared his sincere thoughts about his time at Liverpool. The experienced German manager spoke to the BBC about how he received the club and what he went through to bring it back to the ranks of Europe's strongest teams.
"When I came to Liverpool, nobody liked the team and the players. Even the players themselves didn't like the team, their self-confidence was low. But I saw this situation differently," Klopp said.
According to him, the team had potential, only it lacked trust, work, and unity:
"It didn't matter to me whether Firmino, Benteke, Origi, or Henderson were being criticized. I saw in them a spirit that fought until the last minute. They weren't stars, but they were ready to build a real team."
Klopp's main goal was to restore confidence in the team. He emphasized that the club presented him not with a ready, "decided to succeed" team, but with a squad filled with broken but strong potential players. "I wasn't given a team full of stars, but I believed - even with this squad, you can achieve great results," he recalled.
The German coach's hard work and confident approach have ushered Liverpool into a new era. Under his leadership, the team returned to the ranks of Europe's leading clubs as a disciplined, passionate, and team-spirited squad.
Klopp's period from 2015 to 2024 was a real "golden age" for the club. Under his leadership, the Reds won the UEFA Champions League in 2019, and then won the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years in 2020.
"We revived the club not only on the field but also in the hearts of the fans. Now Liverpool is not just a football team - it has become a symbol of trust and love throughout the world," Klopp said.
The specialist proudly recalls his activities in recent years. He emphasized that managing Liverpool was not just a school of coaching, but a school of growth as a person:
"I realized the true value of the collective spirit here. Here I felt that football is not just about winning, but about love and trust," he said at the end of the conversation.
Yurgen Klopp's path at Liverpool has become a source of inspiration not only for the team but for the entire football world. His name is now associated not only with successes, but also with the symbol of "trust and humanism" in modern football.
