The name of the renowned expert Hector Cuper has left a significant mark on both Asian and African football. The 69-year-old Argentinian coach has led national teams across two continents, captivating many football fans with his style and intellect.
It was Cooper who earned a great reputation as the coach who led the Egyptian national team to the 2018 World Cup. Under his leadership, the African team with a rejuvenated squad conducted qualifying at a high level and successfully qualified for the World Cup. After parting ways with Egypt, he chose the Uzbekistan national team as his next destination, and this decision caused a lot of discussion at the time.
During his tenure in Tashkent, the team adopted new tactical approaches, a number of young players were given confidence, and the team's playing style was gradually updated. At a press conference before the 2019 AFC Asian Cup match against Turkmenistan, Cooper explained his philosophy as follows:
"My work in Egypt should not be associated with my current activities at all. Our current playing style with the Uzbekistan national team is completely different from the Egyptian team of that time. Perhaps there are some similarities, but here we have implemented a completely new system. And satisfying the fans is much more difficult today: you need to win, control the ball, and play an entertaining game, and it's not easy to do it all at once."
It's also worth noting that the Argentinian coach was dismissed in September 2019 after failing to achieve the expected result against Palestine. Cooper's last place of work was the Syrian national team, where he was able to show his style in a short time.
Today's match kicks off at 9:00 PM Tashkent time. And fans will once again enjoy these historical lessons about the opinions and past experiences of experienced specialists like Cooper.
