Poland Edges Past Malta in a Challenging Victory


In the final group stage match of the World Cup qualifiers, the national teams of Poland and Malta faced off against each other. Poland secured a hard-fought victory in the match.

In the 32nd minute, following a free kick by Piotr Zieliński, Robert Lewandowski accurately headed the ball into the left corner of the goal, opening the score – 1-0. However, just four minutes later, during Malta's attack, Iljas Shuaraf sent the ball to the far post, where Joseph Mbong passed it to Irvin Cardona.

Cardona's initial shot was blocked by a defender, but on the rebound, the ball found its way into the net – 1-1. In the second half, Lewandowski made an attempt during an attack inside the penalty area but shot the ball over the goal.

In the 59th minute, Pavol Wszołek struck near the goal and placed the ball into the net, changing the scoreline to 2-1. Subsequently, a penalty was awarded to the Malta team – Jakub Kiwior committed a foul in his own penalty area, and Teddy Teuma successfully converted the penalty kick – 2-2.

In the 85th minute, Piotr Zieliński took a shot from 25 meters, the ball deflected off a defender and ended up in the right corner of the goal – 3-2. Thus, Poland added three points to their tally and secured second place in the group.

Malta concluded the group stage with one win and two draws.
