Something unprecedented is happening again. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is reportedly planning to bring Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior to their squad.
According to the publication Fichajes, PSG is ready to make an offer to Vinícius in 2027 if he does not extend his contract with Real Madrid. The club's management is looking to add another big star to their roster and remain in the spotlight of the media.
But how wise could this decision be for PSG? The team's history of assembling a squad of stars dates back to 2017.
That year, the club signed Neymar from Barcelona for €222 million and initially acquired Kylian Mbappé from Monaco on loan, later making his transfer permanent for €180 million. The primary goal was to win the UEFA Champions League, but these plans were limited to victories in the domestic league.
In 2021, Lionel Messi moved from Barcelona to PSG. The squad seemed to be fully stacked with stars, but the results were not as expected.
In 2023, PSG appointed Luis Enrique as head coach. That summer, Neymar and Messi departed the club, while Mbappé was completing the final year of his contract before a possible move to Real Madrid.
Enrique expressed a desire to build a genuine football team rather than one consisting merely of stars. The result was PSG winning the Champions League for the first time without relying on its previous star players, and securing four trophies over the season.
This success demonstrated that abandoning the "Galácticos" concept was the right decision. PSG is currently in good shape on the pitch.

However, adding a star like Vinícius could disrupt this balance. As the Neymar case previously demonstrated, Vinícius could also potentially have a negative impact on the team's internal atmosphere.
