In the 12th round of the Premier League, Manchester City lost away to Newcastle, after which Pep Guardiola, as usual, calmly and analytically commented on the situation. He emphasized that the team made every effort on the field based on their capabilities, but fully restoring the game tempo after the international break will not be easy.
According to the specialist, the game was played at a high tempo, and both teams had opportunities to score goals in crucial moments. However, City couldn't capitalize on several opportunities - the toughness of the opponent's defense and the tension in the center also played a role.
Guardiola particularly highlighted goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. According to him, the Italian goalkeeper saved the team from a clear goal several times, and the most important saves in the game belonged to him.
"In the second half, we had many chances, but we couldn't convert them into goals. At such times, the rules of football come into play - the opponent can take advantage of an opportunity you couldn't take advantage of. "That's exactly what happened," said Pep.
Despite the defeat, the coach emphasized his confidence in the team, stating that there is a big road ahead of the season. City currently sits in 3rd place with 22 points, while Newcastle United is in 14th place with 15 points.
Guardiola believes this result won't negatively impact the team's morale - on the contrary, it will encourage more serious preparation for the upcoming matches.
