Lessons learned from the Ukrainian psyche
Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk's head coach, Arda Turon, shared his thoughts after the 2-1 victory against Shemrock Rovers in Ireland in the Conference League. The experienced specialist from Turkey said that the team spent a lot of time traveling to reach Dublin, and after a 16-hour journey, it was not possible to conduct a full training session.
Arda Turon did not hide the fact that he learned the biggest lesson from the Ukrainians. "I try to evaluate everything positively. Shall I tell you from whom I learned this? From Ukrainians. I go there, bombs fall, and they calmly say: "This is just a rocket." Drones are not a problem for them. I respect them very much," the coach said, emphasizing the Ukrainians' spirit of positive attitude in difficult times.
Sharp appeal to leaders
Turon also addressed world leaders - Trump, Putin, Erdogan, Zelenskyy - sharply: "Now is not the time for war. The children had to think about Mars or something else, not about war. If you spend at least one night in Kyiv, then you can talk about football." He added that he loves Ukrainians and feels like his family.
38-year-old Arda Turon has been managing Shakhtar since May 2025. Currently, Shakhtar Leverkusen leads the Conference League with 9 points.
