Over the weekend, Liverpool secured a victory against West Ham on the road without Mohamed Salah – the Egyptian footballer did not step onto the pitch and remained on the bench for the entirety of the 90 minutes in that match. Similarly, Salah was not included in the starting lineup for the match against Sunderland on Wednesday.
It was only in the second half that coach Arne Slot brought Salah into the game to strengthen the attack. The first half concluded without any goals, despite Liverpool dominating possession.
The score at Anfield was finally opened midway through the second half: Sunderland player Chemsdine Talbi fired a shot from outside the penalty area, leaving Alisson beaten. Liverpool managed to equalize in the 81st minute.
Florian Wirtz received the ball inside the opposition's penalty area, and after making a few moves, took a shot. The ball deflected off Nordi Mukiele and ended up in the back of the net.
Arne Slot's team continued to push for a victory, but no further goals were scored, and the match ended in a 1–1 draw. In the Premier League standings, Liverpool is currently in eighth place with 22 points, while Sunderland sits in sixth with 23 points.
