PSG goalkeeper, Russian Matvey Safonov, has revealed the differences between the Russian Premier League (RPL) and France's Ligue 1. According to the footballer, during his first six months with the Parisian club, he spent most of his time retrieving the ball from the back of the net.
Despite this, both the coaches and his teammates supported him. "There was an adjustment in terms of speed and decision-making.
Even when opposing players have their backs turned to the goal, I would approach them, but they wouldn't waste time turning around; instead, they'd deliver the ball with just one touch. And I would think, 'What should I do in such a situation?'
They would say, 'You're doing everything right. This is the level,'” Safonov explained in an interview with Fyodor Smolov.
In the 2024/2025 season, Safonov managed to win nearly all club trophies with PSG, including the Champions League. However, in the current season, he has yet to appear in any matches but may have the chance to debut in the upcoming game against Rennes.
The Parisian club's first-choice goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, is still recovering from an injury. Earlier, there were media reports suggesting that PSG might loan or sell Safonov.
As a result, the footballer is also considering options to leave the club. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
