Before the draw for the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, news was confirmed, which was completely unexpected for US President Donald Trump, but also prestigious. According to The Athletic, Trump will be awarded a specially established FIFA Peace Prize. It is also significant that this award is being presented for the first time in history - therefore, Trump was the first to receive it.
It was reported that on December 5, during the draw ceremony, the US leader will also be given a separate time to deliver a speech. This is one of the rare cases when the political and sports world converges at one point before the World Cup.
The Peace Prize was established in November 2025 as a FIFA initiative aimed at strengthening international solidarity and promoting global peace ideas through sports.
It is worth noting that the 2026 World Cup will be held in a completely new format in sports history - for the first time, the World Cup will be held simultaneously in three countries: the USA, Canada, and Mexico. 48 national teams will participate in the tournament, which will make the tournament even more large-scale and competitive.
The major competition will last from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and is expected to become a true football festival for fans.
