From December 5 to 12, 2025, the prestigious "Freestyle Chess Grand Slam" tournament was held in Cape Town, South Africa. With a total prize fund of 660,000 US dollars, the tournament brought together the world’s top chess players, competing under round-robin and knockout formats. Eight grandmasters participated in the event, including Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Vincent Keymer, and Javokhir Sindarov.
Additionally, our compatriot Javokhir Sindarov advanced in the tournament and competed against the world’s fourth-ranked player, Vincent Keymer, for third place. Unfortunately, Javokhir lost in both matches.
However, Sindarov secured a respectable fourth position in the tournament and claimed a prize of 60,000 US dollars.
The tournament winner, Levon Aronian, took home 200,000 US dollars, while second place went to Magnus Carlsen with a prize of 120,000 US dollars. Vincent Keymer, finishing in third place, secured a prize of 80,000 US dollars.
