Bayern Munich Struggles to Draw Against Underdog Mainz

Bundesliga’s bottom-placed Mainz put up a commendable fight against Bayern Munich in Munich, holding the reigning champions to a draw despite limited ball possession. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
At the start of the game, Mainz launched a quick attack down the left wing: following a series of ricochets in the penalty area, the ball hit the crossbar instead of finding the net. In response, Bayern’s Harry Kane attempted a close-range header after a cross from the right wing, but the ball landed in the goalkeeper’s hands.
In the 29th minute, Bayern took the lead. Kane delivered a low pass across the right side of the penalty area, which Serge Gnabry redirected back to the left in a single touch. Lennart Carl capitalized on the opportunity from a few meters out, sending the ball into the net — 1-0.
At the end of the first half, in the 45th minute, Mainz equalized with a set-piece. William Boving sent a corner kick to the far post, where Kasper Potolski finished with a precise header, restoring parity — 1-1. Early in the second half, Gnabry was set up with a sharp pass, bringing him one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but he failed to score.
Kane attempted to put away the rebounding ball, but Potolski blocked his shot. In the 67th minute, Mainz took the lead: Li Jae-Sung dashed past defenders to meet a long aerial cross into the penalty area, heading the ball into the top-right corner — 1-2.
Near the end of the match, Bayern managed to avoid defeat. Kane won a penalty and confidently converted it in the 87th minute, leveling the score — 2-2.
After this draw, Bayern maintains a 9-point lead over the second-placed team. Meanwhile, Mainz remains at the bottom of the league table with 7 points.
