Barboza Highlights Safonov's Strengths Over Shevalye

Renowned football agent Pauzu Barboza compared Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) goalkeepers Matvey Safonov and Lucas Chevalier. In the last four matches, Safonov has consistently appeared on the field for PSG, despite beginning the season as the second-choice goalkeeper.

The Russian goalkeeper gained more playing opportunities following an injury to his teammate and did not lose his spot in the starting lineup even after Chevalier's return. According to Barboza, both goalkeepers are strong players, but Safonov demonstrates more reliability in matches and possesses better-developed technical skills.

As an example, the agent highlighted Safonov's strong capabilities when playing with his feet, his ability to choose the right position during free kicks, and his skill in saving penalty kicks, which requires exceptional expertise. Barboza's remarks were reported by RB Sport.

It is worth noting that on Wednesday evening, Matvey Safonov became a hero in the Intercontinental Cup final. He saved four penalty kicks in a post-match shootout, leading PSG to a victory over Flamengo to claim the trophy.

Matvey Safonov has been playing for PSG since the summer of 2024.
