Former striker of Moscow’s Spartak, Aleksandr Prudnikov, highlighted that the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coaching staff should now place more trust in Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov. On December 18, the Parisians claimed the FIFA Intercontinental Cup title.
In the final, Flamengo was defeated after the match extended to a penalty shootout, during which Safonov saved four consecutive shots. "I hope he will face fewer challenges now, and the team should value him much more at this point," Prudnikov’s comments were cited by Match TV.
Safonov started in the main lineup for the fourth game in a row during the clash against Flamengo. During regular time, he conceded one goal, which was from a penalty.
Safonov has secured six trophies within a year of playing for PSG. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
