Guardiola addresses rumors about leaving Manchester City

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has responded to rumors regarding his possible departure from the club at the end of the season. Earlier, reports emerged in the media suggesting Enzo Maresca as the main candidate to replace the Spanish tactician.

According to Guardiola, such questions have been posed to him regularly over the past three to four years. He considers it a natural occurrence and emphasized that he currently sees no issue with it. “Perhaps, I’ll leave City when I’m 75 or 76 years old. That’s normal. But at the moment, I still have 18 months left on my contract,” said the coach.

The Spanish specialist noted that the club must be prepared for any scenario due to the rapid changes in football. However, at present, his departure or future plans are not being officially discussed. “It doesn’t matter if I have a ten-year contract or just six months — everything in football changes very quickly,” he added.

Guardiola also mentioned that he is currently focusing all his attention on the upcoming game. “Right now, my entire focus is on the match against West Ham. After that, I plan to take a break and play golf with my father for a few days,” he said with a smile.

For reference, the 54-year-old Pep Guardiola has been managing Manchester City since 2016. His current contract with the club runs until the end of the 2026/2027 season. For now, the primary focus for the “Citizens” remains their next match and the results of the ongoing season.
