The reason behind Maresca’s “sacking” from Chelsea revealed

Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin commented on Enzo Maresca’s resignation from the team’s head coach role, saying the decision did not surprise him much. In his view, going “against” the club’s hierarchy is a risky scenario for any manager.

Nevin stressed that not every coach in the world can stand up to a board of directors. In such a high-pressure environment, the leadership won’t tolerate it for long—especially if there are signs of a dip in results or performances.

At the same time, Nevin did not hide his sympathy for Maresca. He cited the team’s heavy workload as one of the main reasons for the downturn. In particular, the schedule linked to the Club World Cup gave Chelsea no rest, leading to accumulated fatigue and mental pressure.

According to Nevin, the club now needs people who can “take everything the right way” and put the work in order. Promoting the idea that “those who truly do the job right have the right to speak,” the former player emphasized that the board must look for exactly such profiles.

Nevin ended with a rather “sharp” remark: the club may now look for a manager who is easier to manipulate—possibly a younger option.

In short, Maresca’s departure is not only about results—internal dynamics, pressure, and relations with the hierarchy also seem to have played a decisive role.
