Nigeria beat Egypt on penalties to claim bronze

The third-place match at the Africa Cup of Nations turned into a real “test of nerves.” Nigeria and Egypt could not be separated in regulation time and, with no extra time played, the winner was decided by a penalty shootout — Nigeria ultimately secured the bronze medals.
No goals were scored in regulation — 0:0. Both teams played cautiously, the midfield battle was intense, and defenders snuffed out chances. There were few clear-cut opportunities, but the drama truly began in the shootout.
In the penalty shootout, Nigeria’s players were calmer and more accurate. The shootout ended 4:2 in Nigeria’s favor. The biggest surprise came from Egypt: the team’s first two penalties were missed by star forwards — Manchester City striker Omar Marmoush and Liverpool leader Mohamed Salah. For fans, those two misses became the decisive turning point of the match.
As a result, Nigeria finished the Africa Cup of Nations in third place. Egypt fell one step short of bronze — a reminder that in football, sometimes a single “mistake” can change the outcome of an entire tournament.
In the final, Morocco and Senegal will face off for the title.
