From January 16 to February 1 of this year, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world of chess - the international tournament "Tata Steel Chess 2026" was held in the Dutch city of Waik aan Zee. It's no coincidence that many call this tournament the "Wimbledon of Chess": every year the strongest grandmasters gather here and show a real battle of character.
Most encouragingly, this time the Uzbeks stood in the center of the square. Among the strongest chess players in the world, Nodirbek Abdusattorov became the champion of the competition, and Javokhir Sindarov took second place. That is, both the championship and silver in Weik aan Zee came to Uzbekistan - this is, of course, a historic result.
The value of such a victory lies in the fact that "Tata Steel" is not an ordinary tournament. Here, not a single game comes "easy": every mistake is punished, and every accurate score takes you up. Nodirbek's consistent performance on the path to the championship, and Javohir's fighting spirit to the end, gave the fans a special thrill.
Today morning, the winner and prize-winner of the competition was solemnly welcomed at the Tashkent International Airport. The event was attended by parents of chess players, representatives of the Ministry of Sports, the Youth Affairs Agency, the Chess Federation of Uzbekistan, and the media.
Undoubtedly, this success has further enhanced the authority of the Uzbek chess school in the international arena. Most importantly, this victory is not a one-day sensation: it is a powerful signal that the system, labor, and the new generation are ready for the big stage. For fans, one thing is clear: it's easy to believe at such a time, but you need to keep believing - because this path is just getting heated up.
