According to the expert, Girona truly deserved the victory on the field. Flick emphasized that Barcelona's biggest problem was in defense. Especially during counterattacks, the team gave the opponent too much space and freedom.
“Girona deserved to win today. We defended very poorly, especially on the counterattacks, we gave the opponent too much space,” Flick said.
According to him, the problem was not only felt at the back, but also in the center. The head coach noted that the midfield did not work as expected, and the team did not meet its requirements in terms of control of the game and pace.
“Our midfielders did not play the game we wanted today,” he said.
After this defeat, Girona remained in 12th place in the tournament table with 29 points, while Barcelona is in second place with 58 points. At first glance, their position may not have changed, but such games are “costly” nights in the championship race.
Flick’s speech tells the fans one thing: the team sees the problems and has no intention of hiding them. The most important thing now is to learn from these mistakes in the next rounds and close the gaps, especially on the counterattacks.
