Guardiola openly admits: Manchester City is still lagging behind in standards

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola acknowledged the increasing importance of standard situations in modern football and didn't hide the fact that his team still has unresolved problems in this area. At a time when the championship race was heating up in the Premier League, the Spanish manager openly stated that these small but decisive aspects are affecting the big result.
Guardiola believes that almost all teams want to effectively utilize set pieces like Arsenal. He admitted that the "citizens'" performance in this regard is not yet at the expected level. That is, the coach himself sees that despite being strong in ball control, combination, and open play, "City" is lagging behind rivals in standard situations.
He noted that the level of work of coaches in the English Premier League has increased significantly. Especially today, standard situations have become tools that can be individually planned, practiced, and determine the fate of the game, not just corners or penalties. For this reason, Guardiola said he is now paying much more attention to this aspect compared to the early days of his coaching career.
Pep's words are not without reason. This is because Manchester City currently sits in second place in the Premier League table and aims to catch up with league leaders Arsenal. "Arsenal" leads with 64 points, while "City" is behind with 59 points, but has one game reserve. So, in the championship race, every goal, every corner, and every standard episode can even determine the fate of the season.
Today, March 4th, Manchester City will host Nottingham Forest. According to the official Premier League schedule, the match kicks off at 00:30 Tashkent time. Naturally, in this match too, many will observe not only the victory but also how much the team has grown in terms of standard situations that Guardiola mentioned.
In short, Guardiola openly stated one important truth: in modern football, beautiful combinations are not enough; even set pieces have become a decisive force. City isn't ideal yet, but the coach sees the problem and doesn't hide it. This recognition itself is the first step towards change for a big club.
