The head coach of the Uzbekistan national team, Fabio Cannavaro, is currently in Turkey. The Italian manager watched the Istanbul Bashakshehir vs. Gyoztepe match, part of the 25th round of the Turkish Super League, live from the stadium.
This match was particularly interesting for Uzbek fans: two players from the Uzbekistan national team - Eldor Shomurodov and Abbos Fayzullayev - played for "Bashakshehir" in the starting lineup. Cannavaro, in turn, had the opportunity to observe their movements in person and reassess their form, preparation, and role on the field.
In addition to the match, Cannavaro's trip to Turkey was not limited to just watching football. He also met with club president Göksel Gümüşdağ and Mustafa Eryagut, Turkish national team head coach Vincenzo Montella, and Selçuk Şahin.
According to a statement released by the Istanbul club, "Club President Göksel Gümüşdağ and Mustafa Eryagut hosted the head coach of the Turkish national team Vincenzo Montella, the head coach of the Uzbekistan national team Fabio Cannavaro, as well as the former assistant coach of the Turkish national team and the club Selcuk Şahin." It was also noted that the meeting took place in a "warm and sincere atmosphere."
In short, Cannavaro's visit to Istanbul served two purposes simultaneously: firstly, to assess our national team's foreign players on the spot; secondly, to strengthen ties with Turkish football and the coaching staff. This appears to be a "right step" that could benefit both the national team and our foreign players in the future.
