LaLiga president Javier Tebas announced that special chips will be installed in the balls used in the competition. The new system will record the exact second a player touches the ball for the first time. This data will ensure the fully automatic operation of the offside system. Currently, in LaLiga, where clubs like "Real Madrid" and "Barcelona" participate, offside lines are determined semi-automatically, i.e., by referees drawing them manually. Now, the human factor will be reduced, and decisions will be made more accurately and quickly.
Experts believe that this technology is important for maintaining the pace of the game and minimizing refereeing errors. The chips in the balls will allow for more accurate analysis of not only offsides but also other important statistical indicators of the game.
