Eldor Shomurodov is having his strongest season in the Turkish Super League

The captain of the Uzbekistan national team and its main goalscorer Eldor Shomurodov is showing the most productive and high-scoring season of his professional career.

After his career in Italy, the 30-year-old forward moved to the Turkish Super League and quickly adapted to the new championship, consistently demonstrating his goal-scoring ability.

At first, Shomurodov, playing for “Istanbul Başakşehir”, was scoring in almost every round and for a certain period even became the sole leader in the top scorers’ race. However, in the last five rounds he went through a goalless streak.

His main rival, Paul Onuachu, took advantage of this situation and, thanks to consistent performance, raised his tally to 22 goals and moved ahead in the rankings. It is also noteworthy that six of his goals were scored from penalties.

However, in the 29th round of the Turkish Super League, the Uzbek forward returned to scoring form. In the home match against “Gençlerbirliği”, he opened the scoring in the 9th minute and completed a brace in the 40th minute. Since the outcome of the match was already decided, he was substituted in the 80th minute.

Thus, Eldor Shomurodov increased his total number of goals in the Super League to 18 and continues to actively compete in the top scorers’ race.

Overall, the battle for the championship and individual awards is expected to remain intense until the final rounds. Shomurodov will continue his efforts to catch Paul Onuachu.

He is also being chased by stars with 13 goals — Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi and Fenerbahçe forward Talisca.

In addition, experts note that there are factors that could make Shomurodov’s fight for the Golden Boot more difficult. The attacking lines and midfield of leading clubs — Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, and Trabzonspor — are considered significantly stronger.

Interestingly, Shomurodov has already scored against almost all opponents in the Super League. He has found the net against 14 teams, recording a strong statistical achievement.

Now the only team he has not scored against is Fenerbahçe. Our compatriot will try to score against them in the second half of the season. Meanwhile, Kayserispor and Göztepe are the teams that have managed to keep a clean sheet against him in both matches.

Nevertheless, Shomurodov is in excellent form and aims to fight until the end for the Golden Boot. This is also considered a very positive signal for the Uzbekistan national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
