Vincent Kompany and the team he leads, Bayern Munich, are preparing in high spirits for the second-leg match of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal against the Madrid club Real Madrid. In the first match, the German giant won 2–1, gaining an important advantage.
Ahead of the return match, Kompany commented, noting that all players will have the opportunity to step onto the pitch. According to him, the team is eagerly awaiting this match and the main goal is to win and justify the fans’ trust.
While emphasizing respect for the opponent, the coach separately stressed that the team must enter the game with confidence. In his opinion, Bayern Munich must play only for victory.
Reflecting on the first match, Kompany stated that if the chances had been fully utilized, the score could have been more decisive. In the second half, Real Madrid increased their performance and gained momentum, which gave them confidence.
At the same time, he noted that in the first half, Bayern Munich played very well, and the team is capable of performing at an even higher level. In Kompany’s view, the team’s potential is quite high.
He also stated that the victory at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium gave the team additional confidence, but that it is not enough. According to him, an even stronger performance is required in the second leg.
“Winning at the Santiago Bernabeu gave us confidence, but now we must prove that we are capable of playing even better at home,” Kompany said.
In a statement quoted by the official website of UEFA Champions League, Kompany emphasized that the team must raise its level and apply maximum effort in order to reach the semifinals.
