PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, after Parisian side’s 2–0 victory over Liverpool in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, commented on his team’s winning run and spoke about the psychological preparation and winning mentality within the squad.
Safonov stated that every footballer must improve every day, and that only through this approach can great results be achieved. In his opinion, the key factor is the mental aspect — confidence and inner strength.
“I think everyone has this opinion, and it is very important: everyone must get better every day, and only then can we achieve something,” said Safonov.
The goalkeeper separately emphasized that many players in the team have developed a strong mentality. According to him, the championship won last season gave everyone great experience and further strengthened their confidence.
“I think most players in my team have a very strong mentality. Last year everyone understood what it means to be a champion, and everyone wants to repeat it again,” Safonov said on the beIN Sports broadcast.
On aggregate, PSG defeated the English club 4–0 and reached the semi-finals. Now the Paris side is waiting for the winner of the tie between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
It is noted that last season the team also won the UEFA Champions League, which further strengthens their previous achievements. According to Matvey Safonov, the main goal of the team is to repeat this success.
