Iranian clubs call for legionnaires' return, decision pending

According to information shared by Eurasia Football, official appeals have been sent to at least two foreign players playing in the Iranian championship to return to the country and rejoin their teams. These letters noted that the situation has recently become relatively stable, firing has ceased, and clubs are gradually resuming preparations for the new season.

The official statements sent to the players emphasized that safety is the top priority. The clubs stated that they view the life and health of their players and staff as a primary task and informed that all processes are being carried out in cooperation with relevant organizations.

"The safety of all our players and staff is our most important task. We are monitoring the situation closely and taking all necessary measures to create a safe and professional environment for you," the official appeal states.

At the same time, the fate of the domestic championship remains uncertain. According to sources, the Iranian Football Federation and club management are seriously discussing options to either end the competition prematurely or restore it. Preliminary information suggests that a final decision may be made by the end of April.

Due to the escalation of the situation in the country, the issue of participating in international competitions is also at the center of discussions. Some officials have expressed the possibility of not participating in the World Cup or limiting the travel of clubs and national teams to certain countries. However, no clear and official decisions have been made in this regard so far.

Despite this, some teams continue their participation. For example, Tractor club played a match in Saudi Arabia in the playoff stage of the AFC Champions League. The national team has already begun preparations for the World Cup to be held in North America this summer.

Currently, nearly 40 legionnaires are active in Iranian clubs. Among them are five Uzbek players — Jaloliddin Masharipov, Oston Orunov, Rustam Ashurmatov, Odil Hamrobekov, and Igor Sergeyev. Additionally, two Tajikistani and one Kyrgyzstani player were noted.

After the military conflict began, most foreign players left the country urgently. It is said that they primarily exited through the borders of Turkey and Azerbaijan. Now, as the situation relatively calms down, the process of returning them to their teams is beginning.
