Borussia Dortmund looking to strengthen goalkeeper position

Borussia Dortmund is searching for a new goalkeeper to provide competition for their number one, Gregor Kobel. According to reports, the Dortmund side is interested in Werder Bremen goalkeeper Mio Backhaus. This is reported by Goal.com .
The 22-year-old has established himself as one of the most promising goalkeepers in German football this season. He has made 31 appearances across all competitions, conceding 54 goals and keeping 5 clean sheets.
Gregor Kobel is the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper at Borussia Dortmund. Therefore, if the transfer goes through, Backhaus is expected to serve as the backup initially, with the potential to challenge for the starting spot in the future.
The club currently has goalkeepers like Alexander Meyer and Diant Ramaj, who is expected to return from loan. However, due to the age of 35-year-old Meyer and the possibility of Ramaj being sold, the club aims to add a young keeper to the squad.
Borussia Dortmund is not alone in the race for this transfer. SC Freiburg is also monitoring Mio Backhaus, considering the potential departure of their goalkeeper Noah Atubolu. The player's current contract with Bremen runs until June 30, 2028.
