The only regret in Patrick Vieira's career: Turning down Real Madrid

Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has reflected on the biggest crossroads of his illustrious career, admitting that turning down an offer from Real Madrid is his only regret. Although the French midfielder was the backbone of the London club during its most successful era, the call from the Santiago Bernabéu left an indelible mark on his memory. This is reported by Goal.com .
Vieira played for nine seasons in the Premier League, winning the title three times. His dominance in midfield caught the attention of Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez. In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Vieira stated: "I only regret one thing — not joining Real Madrid. They tried to sign me for four years. In the final year, I agreed, everything was settled, but then I changed my mind. I loved Arsenal too much."
The former player recalled meeting Florentino Pérez later when he visited Madrid as a Manchester City ambassador. Pérez showed him a Marca cover story and said: "You were the only player who turned down Real Madrid." This confession highlights that he was one of the few players who could say no to the "Galácticos" project of that era.
Vieira also touched upon his former Inter coach, José Mourinho. He considers the Portuguese tactician the most suitable candidate for Real Madrid. Vieira recounted an incident during a 2009 match against Manchester United: "Mourinho promised to play me for 60 minutes, but substituted me at halftime after a mistake. I was upset then, but today, as a coach, I understand he made the right decision for the team's benefit."
