Jose Mourinho signs three-year contract with Real Madrid

In a surprise decision, Jose Mourinho is returning as head coach of Real Madrid. The 63-year-old Portuguese tactician has signed a three-year contract with the Spanish giants, valid until June 2029. Club president Florentino Perez chose Mourinho to rebuild the team after two consecutive trophy-less seasons. This is reported by Goal.com .
According to The Athletic, Real Madrid began negotiations on May 8, and all terms were agreed upon last week. The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager rejected a new contract offer from Benfica to return to Madrid. Florentino Perez has announced presidential elections for June 7, and Mourinho's appointment is expected to be officially confirmed after the vote.
Mourinho concluded his tenure at the Lisbon club on May 16 with a 3-1 victory over Estoril. Upon learning of his departure, Benfica's board is considering Fulham manager Marco Silva after Ruben Amorim declined the position. Real Madrid is currently in a deep crisis following the dismissal of Xabi Alonso in January and the departure of interim coach Alvaro Arbeloa.
Perez believes Mourinho's determined character is exactly what is needed to end dressing room conflicts and stop the decline in the domestic league. However, the new coach faces difficult tasks: he must address disgruntled fans, rumors surrounding Kylian Mbappe, past tensions with Vinicius Junior, and execute a successful summer transfer campaign.
