According to official Saudi figures, more than 1 million pilgrims visited the country during the current Hajj season. Of these, 53 percent were men and 47 percent were women. The majority of pilgrims arrived by air — 94 percent. 4.83 percent arrived via land borders and about 0.5 percent by sea.
Cases of violations and preventive measures
269,678 people were stopped trying to enter the city of Mecca without a residence permit. In addition, 252 fake Hajj campaigns were exposed and 1,239 people were arrested for illegally importing pilgrims.
