Perplexity offers to buy Chrome
Artificial intelligence start-up Perplexity has made an unexpected offer to purchase Google’s Chrome browser for $34.5 billion. The company says this step will improve user safety and support the open internet.

Google has so far not announced any plans to sell Chrome. Chrome, with more than three billion users worldwide, is the most popular browser.

Perplexity said that if the deal goes through, Google Search will remain the default in Chrome, but users will be able to change the settings. The company also intends to continue developing Chromium, the open-source platform that supports Chrome and other browsers.

Experts consider the offer to be significantly below Chrome’s real value. Some suggest it was made to attract attention.

Recently, Perplexity launched an AI-powered browser called Comet. The company had previously made an offer to purchase the US version of TikTok.
