TikTok is planning to lay off hundreds of staff in the UK. Most of them are content controllers, and the company aims to move this process to other European offices and make wider use of artificial intelligence.
TikTok representatives say these changes are part of a plan to strengthen the global “Trust and Safety” department. According to them, artificial intelligence will speed up the process and increase efficiency.
However, the British trade union criticised this decision, calling it “putting corporate interests above people’s safety”. They said relying only on technology could be dangerous.
The dismissed controllers will have the right to apply for other positions within the company.
These changes come at a time when online safety requirements in the UK have become stricter. Now companies that do not comply with the law may face large fines. Therefore, TikTok is also introducing new control measures.
