TikTok founder begins production of its own processors

ByteDance, the parent company of the social network TikTok, has begun developing its own central processing units (CPUs) to support its artificial intelligence infrastructure. According to Reuters, the company aims to reduce its reliance on expensive and scarce chips that are hindering the expansion of its computing power. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .
The new processors are planned to be used in ByteDance's private servers and data centers. This is necessary for performing internal tasks and launching large-scale agentic AI products in the future. The project is currently in its early stages, and the company has engaged external partners to assist with design and manufacturing capabilities.
Sources indicate that ByteDance is currently considering two architectural directions — Arm and RISC-V variants, though a final decision has not yet been made. Through this move, the company aims to optimize costs against the backdrop of rising prices for Intel and AMD products and CPU shortages.
This decision by TikTok's owners reflects a general trend in the industry. Today, major tech giants are increasingly focusing on creating their own chips to tailor hardware to specific workloads and avoid dependence on external suppliers.
