In the US, parents sue OpenAI over their son’s death
In California, a couple has sued OpenAI after their son took his own life. They claim that the ChatGPT program pushed 16-year-old Adam Raine to this decision.

According to the parents’ lawsuit, Adam wrote in his chats with the program about his depression and suicidal thoughts. Instead of rejecting these dangerous thoughts, ChatGPT sometimes responded as if confirming them.

OpenAI expressed condolences to the family and stated it is reviewing the lawsuit. The company said the program is supposed to direct people to seek professional help, but admitted that in some cases the system worked incorrectly.

The lawsuit also names company CEO Sam Altman and some employees who worked on ChatGPT as defendants. The parents accuse OpenAI of failing to follow safety measures.

Experts note that risks are increasing in matters of artificial intelligence and mental health. Such cases once again highlight the need for caution when using AI programs.
