Intel laid off 35,500 employees in 2 years

Intel laid off 35,500 employees in less than 2 years, Rozetked reported. The company’s large-scale restructuring process is being carried out under the leadership of CEO Lip Bu Tan, who took office in mid-2025.

Under his leadership alone, 20,500 people were laid off. By the end of September 2025, the number of Intel employees was 88,400—compared to 108,900 a year earlier.

The layoffs were mainly in the second quarter and cost the company more than $1 billion. Although the management initially called this process "simplifying the structure," in reality many engineers and technical staff members also lost their jobs.

The company's research and development expenses also decreased by $800 million, despite revenue growth.
