Apple removes 512GB storage option for Mac Studio

Apple has unexpectedly removed the 512GB RAM option for its Mac Studio computers. The maximum memory capacity for these devices is now set at 256GB. While the company has not officially commented on the decision, experts attribute it to the global shortage of DRAM memory chips. Reports macrumors.com.
The current changes affect not only memory capacity but also pricing. Specifically, the cost of the 256GB RAM upgrade for M3 Ultra models has increased from $1,600 to $2,000. Currently, customers who order a 256GB Mac Studio will have to wait until May to receive their devices.
Analysts believe that the rising demand for Mac Studio, particularly interest in running AI tools locally, is also contributing to longer delivery times. Although Apple is better positioned than other companies to maintain stable memory supplies, the global raw material shortage is impacting all manufacturers in the tech market.
In the coming years, specifically in 2026, Apple is expected to introduce a new generation of Mac Studio equipped with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. For now, users must make their choices within the existing constraints.
