OpenAI has launched the new GPT-5.5 Instant base model for ChatGPT. This update replaces the previous GPT-5.3 Instant model and is available for free to all users. The model's stability has significantly increased, especially in long-running conversations. GPT-5.5 Instant is also much more efficient at analyzing images, answering STEM questions, and determining when to perform web searches.
The new model has also made significant progress in understanding context. ChatGPT can now more effectively utilize conversation history, uploaded files, and even information from connected Gmail accounts to provide personalized responses. Users can now track which memory data the model relied on to generate its answers.
