Emergency Warning on North American Power Grid Security

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) has acknowledged that the uncontrolled growth of data centers poses a serious threat to the stability of the energy system. Experts are concerned that the electricity demand of new data centers is exceeding that of major cities. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .
In early May, NERC announced a seven-point set of "necessary measures" to regulate the situation. This document provides for data collection and the creation of testing protocols from data center owners. However, the sector currently remains in a legal "gray zone," and NERC's mandatory standards do not apply to them.
Technically, traditional energy systems are not adapted to the rapidly changing digital loads of data centers. NERC reports have documented instances of generator failures due to fluctuations caused by electronic equipment. The corporation currently lacks the authority to impose fines for non-compliance with recommendations.
Experts believe that the rapid development of artificial intelligence and cloud computing technologies is putting the energy sector in a difficult position. IT giants are reluctant to share details of their operations with energy companies, which risks shifting the costs of grid modernization onto ordinary consumers.
