YouTube restricts videos viewed via VPN in Russia

The YouTube platform has begun restricting access to certain videos for users in Russia utilizing VPN services. In some cases, videos do not appear in the new releases section, or a warning appears on the screen asking to disable the VPN or proxy so that YouTube can suggest the most relevant content. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .
According to industry experts, these restrictions primarily apply to content tied to regional rights, specifically sports broadcasts and television premieres. Examples include Formula 1 races, the Olympic Games, and other exclusive events with strict licensing controls.
Experts emphasize that YouTube is not implementing a global block, but rather enforcing regional copyright compliance. The system can analyze a user's IP address, the country where the account was registered, payment information, and VPN markers.
Meanwhile, Russia's VK Video service announced that it has improved performance under slow internet conditions. According to the company, video loading speeds have increased by 60 percent.
